Hace más de un año descubrí el video de Story of Stuff. En este videoo se habla sobre el gran problema del consumismo repercute sobre el medio ambiente. Con gusto recientemente descubrí que ahora este video tiene subtítulos en varios idiomas, entre estos el español. Les invito a verlo y a meditar un poco sobre el planeta en el que vivimos y como lo estamos destruyendo.

Compilar opencv

Para compilar opencv debemos seguir unos pasos previos, hay que instalar algunas librerías de videos e imágenes extras, y ademas el cmake.
depende de nuestra distribución favorita instalaremos

ffmpeg, gstreamer, inicap, pvapi, jasper, tiff, png, jpeg, gtk. de tal forma que nos aparezca algo como esto

Usuarios de Software Libre y de Software Privativo

Durante mucho tiempo solo use software privativo. No sabía de la existencia del software libre hasta mis últimos años de universidad. Cuando empecé a usar la computadora utilizaba solo el software que venía en la misma. Luego descubrí que existía software que podía utilizar si algún amigo me lo compartía, con el tiempo descubrí que eso era ilegal.

Fue entonces cuando estaba cerca de tener mis 15 años convencí a mi mamá que me compre Windows 95. Con el tiempo salieron nuevas aplicaciones y simplemente me era muy caro comprar todas las que mis amigos tenían. Entonces aprendí que era más fácil y práctico copiar todas estas aplicaciones, al igual que lo hacían mis amigos. Podía ser que estaba infringiendo la ley, pero era eso o no usar la computadora.

Luego en la universidad era peor, porque el software que utilizaba costaba en el orden de los cientos de dólares. Yo no tenía otra posibilidad que infringir la ley, al igual que todos mis compañeros y hasta profesores. Recuerdo que tenía profesores que nos decían donde comprar el software ilegal y como hacer para crakearlo.

Luego cuando descubrí el software libre, aprendí que copiar software no era malo. Es más los desarrolladores de software libre invitan a hacerlo. Descubrí toda una comunidad de usuarios dispuesta apoyarme en lo que necesitaba. En más de una ocasión llegué a tener comunicación directa con los desarrolladores de Software Libre. Hoy ayudo a empresas a compartir su software en la web y establecer enlaces. Algunos serán usuarios, otros socios de negocios, otros colaboradores y otros clientes.

He aquí la diferencia entre el usuario de software privativo y el de software libre. El de software privativo se ve obligado a infringir la ley y ve a las personas que desarrollan el software como inalcanzables. Los usuarios de software libre somos parte de una comunidad donde somos orgullos de mostrar el software que utilizamos y no infringimos la ley.

Gracias a las ventajas de la librería Opencv (Open Computer Vision), se pueden tener varias alternativas para el manejo de imágenes digitalizadas ya sea mediante webcam o simplemente el manejo de imágenes estáticas.
El siguiente código maneja el reconocimiento de rostros, lo interesante es que si la persona deja de ver a la cámara web el protector de pantalla se ejecutará, y bloqueará la pantalla de nuestras portátiles, y cuando regresamos o la camara a detectado un rostro el protector de pantallas se desactiva.

As I have been a drupalista for some years now I decided to submit a session to DrupalCon Copenhagen 2010 taking place in August at the Bella Center.

As the description verses: “This session focuses on how the Ubuntu Community makes use of Drupal everywhere: From ubuntu.com through most Local Community sites worldwide and to the Ubuntu Marketing site SpreadUbuntu, we use Drupal to spread the message of Open Source Freedom. And we want to share this know-how with everyone!“

As you might have noticed I am aware of the fact that we use it Drupal in many places: Ubuntu.com (needs no intro!), the prominent UbuntuDrupal project used by many Local Community (LoCo) sites, the Canonical driven Launchpad OpenID Drupal Integration and the marketing material site SpreadUbuntu.

I know of many installations using their own LAMP environment, big sites using Drupal with web acceleration (some use Squid, while the more wise among us use Varnish) and others use the Drupal installation provided as a hosting service to approved LoCos by Canonical.

I also know that using Drupal in the community and deploying Drupal on Ubuntu are totally different subjects. But yes, I want to address both (if possible, we’ll see.)

What I want this time around is to hear YOUR Drupal+Ubuntu story:

Do you deploy Drupal on Ubuntu?
Have you made/setup a Drupal based Ubuntu community related site?
Why did you choose Drupal+Ubuntu to solve your problem(s)?

Unity Desktop en tu Ubuntu Lucid

Unity es la nueva version de Ubuntu Netbook 10.10. Como sabrian, existe aun Ubuntu Netbook Remix que tambien es version para las Netbooks pero debera ser reemplazada.

Si deseas tenerla en tu Ubuntu simplemente sigue estos pasos:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:canonical-dx-team/une sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install ubuntu-netbook-unity-default-settings

Has un Log Out y cuando vayas a ingresar de nuevo escoje Unity como tu desktop y listo a probarlo

Howto instalar Firefox 3.6.4 on Ubuntu Karmic para probarlo

Firefox 3.0 y 1,9 xulrunner ahora sin el apoyo de Mozilla. Se a sacado la version 3.6.4 como un pequenia actualizacion de la serie 3.6 en Lucid. Esto tambien se a sacado para Hardy, Jaunty y Karmic por supuesto.

Para instalar esta nueva version debemos de agregar los repo dentro de Karmic Koala

Abrimos el terminal y ponemos:

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mozilla-security/ppa/ubuntu karmic main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mozilla-security/ppa/ubuntu karmic main

Luego guardamos y cerramos el archivo

Despues de eso le damos lo siguiente:

sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 7EBC211F
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Meet up in Berlin for a FLOSS talk? + No Velocity without Varnish ;)

As work is taking me to Berlin (for the eZ Conference & Awards Thu-Fri) I would like to use the occasion and meet some local Ubuntu and/or Varnish Cache enthusiasts

I’ll arrive in the evening of Wednesday, be in the conference hotel until Friday and then CouchSurf at an awesome Berliner’s apartment Friday to Sunday afternoon, when I will be heading back to Oslo.

This is the first time I am in Berlin more than a few hours at a time (did that for 13 years ago) and it would be nice to enjoy it with the locals and other travelers if possible. I’ve only heard awesome things about the city!

If you want to know more, have participated or have some input on the projects I am involved with (hint: SpreadUbuntu and the Maverick cycle) please do get in touch. You can contact me through Twitter, Launchpad, LinkedIn or e-mail and we will arrange something. Thanks in advance!

Ubuntu revela el entorno de escritorio Unity y Ubuntu Light

Desde Canonical ya andan sorprediendonos con algunas de las novedades de la próxima versión de Ubuntu, esta sería la Ubuntu 10.10.

El entorno Unity se usará en el sistema operativo pensado para netbooks ( Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Edition ) y posiblemente podamos verla antes de tiempo.

Esta llegará en el mes de Octubre ( entre el 23-26 de Octubre ) y se encuentra disponible para desarrolladores de aplicaciones.

Pensado para equipos reducidos como miniportátiles y para dispositivos de pantalla táctil, así como para una mejor interactividad.

Con Unity llega grandes novedades integradas en él, como podría ser función de chat, aplicaciones multimedia, mensajería instantánea o navegador web.

Podrás tener acceso más rápidamente gracias a que interactua con el propio arranque de Windows y puedes consultar correo, navegar, entre otras cosas.

En los próximos meses podremos verlo en las versiones preliminares de las distintas versiones de Ubuntu.

* Ok, who are you?

I am a 28 year old guy. I am father to my 6 years old daughter. I work with sales and have over the years specialized in Free and Open Source Software technology. In my spare time I am an avid Free software user and Ubuntu community member. I do also participate in other groups/communities promoting free culture/software and like to be social hanging a lot with friends and new people.

* What is Varnish?

Varnish is the fastest web accelerator in the known universe And it’s free software! But do not take my word for it, sites likes Facebook, Twitter, NYTimes, E-Bay, WordPress.com (thanks for hosting this blog) and many others use it on a daily basis. If Varnish would have been around all along and people used it all over the web the term slashdoted would not have existed (yes, Slashdot uses Varnish too!)

* How did the Varnish project start?

Varnish was an idea that ocurred to Anders Berg in 2005. He was then System Administrator at VG Multimedia (Online branch of Norways biggest newspaper Verdens Gang) and figured out that there had to be an effective way to deliver snappier web pages using the unleashed technology under the hood of today’s operative systems.

So a team at Linpro (acquired by Redpill in 2008) and Poul Henning Kamp, of FreeBSD and bikeshade coloured fame, started hacking on Varnish.

Some months later @ VG Multimedia 12 squid servers hit the dust and were replaced by 1 server running Varnish. One server handling all requests (45 Million a week) faster than before and with a noticeable carbon footprint reduction.

In 2006 Varnish was released as open source software (BSD) with Linpro offering professional services, support and heading the development of new features.

* What does Varnish do?

Taking advantages of proper memory and hardware management in modern operative systems (Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris) Varnish lets you forget about the backend slowness: databases, CMS, Portal software, middleware. This translates in Application Developers and Designers doing their job: making great content, beautiful layout and more features for your websites.

Varnish can be seen as a layer in front of your present web infrastructure which optimizes the delivery of your content. Images speak louder than words:

Nokia Booklet 3G + Ubuntu LTS 10.04 CDs arrive to Oslo

Nice couple, right?

As mentioned earlier I was expecting the Nookia Booklet 3G to arrive soon for some testing (thanks to WOMWorld/Nokia) and so today was the day.

Performance

Basically its performance with Windows is not spectacular. It works and it feels ok, but is kind of slowish and the graphics are really slow (you can see windows being moved or drawn!!??)

I tried it with Ubuntu LTS 10.04 Netbook Edition and it worked almost flawlessly out of the box. The one exception is of course screen resolution. This was expected as the GMA 500 is pretty much a hellsent piece of hardware with useless software for users of newer GNU/Linux distributions as no drivers for newer Xorg is available.

Those who know me guessed it already: I am going to try until it works. And I got others with me!

I cannot let you do testing yourself with this device but if you want me to I can test things for you. If you have a benchmarking software test suite (Windows and Linux) you could recommend or something you want to know about the device I will do my best the next 2 weeks to answer your questions. Just leave a comment.

Manual de Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 LTS

El manual de Ubuntu 10.04 ya esta lanzado y que a sido realizado por la Comunidad Ubuntu. El Libro tiene el titulo de Getting Started with Ubuntu 10.04, el cual esta enfocado a la mayoria de los usuarios que esten empezando a usar Ubuntu, osea los novatos.

Esta iniciativa lo tubo Benjamin Humphrey que vio la necesidad de una documentacion orientada, actualizada y consistente para nuestro sistema de Ubuntu. Este Manual esta bajo licencia Creative Commons 3.0. Lo que significa que podemos bajarlo, copiarlo y compartirlo con nuestra comunidad.

Estan todos invitados a bajarlo, leerlo, compartirlo con sus amigos, familiares, companieros de trabajo etc. Cada dia Ubuntu es mas fuerte y mas facil y accesible. Pueden bajarlo de la pagina oficial en donde en un par de pasos estaras bajando el Manual completamente gratuito.

De hecho si tienes un poco de conocimiento de Ingles podrias dar una mano en la traduccion de este fabuloso manual.

Toda la semana me he matado intentando instalar algunos paquetes en la distro Centos... me he roto la cabeza sin llegar a una solución, hasta me di por vencido.. pero hoy un amigo al leer mi estado en el chat me aconsejo utilizar el repositorio dag, que es una colección de rpms para diferentes versiones derivadas de rh... en el enlace podrás encontrar mayor información acerca del este repositorio

Real life has been catching up with me lately and I have been busy. But the show must go on and I have some updates:

Nokia Booklet 3G testing coming up!
I have been chosen by WOMWorld/Nokia to test the Nokia Booklet 3G mini laptop which hopefully will be arriving in the coming weeks. If you want me to test something please add a comment and I will take a look at doing it. My plan is as follows:

Test its performance as a working tool
have the pleasure of the Booklet being used as a gadget for fun
Check how well it works with different operative systems (you guessed right: I am trying Ubuntu on it)

PRADS – Passive Real-time Asset Detection System
People that read this blog know how much I appreciate Free Software solving real world problems! So I want to invite you all to check out PRADS which is one of those projects that deliver from day 1 and will make your life in a IT Service Management and Security context easier. PRADS (which is inspired by passive.sourceforge.net, lcamtuf.coredump.cx/p0f and others…) aims at:

OS fingerprinting (IPv4 and IPv6)
- TCP: SYN, SYN+ACK, Stray-ACK, RST, FIN (Compatible with p0f fingerprints)
- UDP (Not seen in any other tools before!)
- ICMP (Not seen in any other tools before!)
- Others to be implemented (DHCP and behavior based etc)

Service and client detection (IPv4 and IPv6):
- TCP services and client detection (Client detection not seen in any other tools before!?)
- UDP services and client detection (Not seen in any other tools before!?)
Asset detection:
- If a asset uses IPv4 or IPv6, it will be detected.
- ARP detection (MAC addresses of assets)
- VLAN detection
- IP in IP and GRE decoding…
PRADS comes in two versions:
The perl version supports DBI for database handling (sqlite (default), MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MSSQL…)
The C version is based on output modules, and stdout (done), logfile (done-) and binary mode is currently being developed.

As Ubuntu 10.04 – Lucid Lynx is shaping us rather nicely the release party in Oslo has been shaping up for a while and now only the last details remain. I hope to have time this weekend to finish them up and make an announcement. For details please see our wiki planning page for activities under the Lucid cycle (Norwegian only).

Ubuntu Lucid LTS esta a unas pocas semanas para la version final. Y si deseas distribuirla puedes darles unas tarjetas a tus amigos, clientes, vecinos oh quien tu desees para dar soporte, instalacion. Hay una tarjeta de presentacion creada por Martin Owens que esta muy buena y de color al que pertenece Ubuntu Lucid.

Tu te puedes bajar el source svg de deviantArt y no te olvides de instalar el LMMathSymbols10

Jacob Peddicord a creado tambien su propio disenio a su gusto que es un poco mas sencilla pero no deja de ser elegante.

Que puede ser bajado el file original desde este link, asi mismo lo pueden editar con Inkscape.

Recomendacion, no uses estas tarjetas de presentacion para hacer negocio de ello, se miembro oficial de Ubuntu para usarlas.

Ubuntu Lucid Lynx sigue con su proceso de desarrollo y siguiendo con las fechas previstas recientemente presentaron la segunda beta de Ubuntu 10.04 con Gnome 2.30, la reciente evolución del escritorio presentada tan sólo hace una semana y que desde Cannonical han incorporado Ubuntu Lucid. También incluyen la última versión del escritorio de KDE, en este caso la 4.4.2

Además alguna de las mejoras o evoluciones que van incluyendo son la versión del kernel 2.6.32-16.25 y sobre todo cambios estéticos enfocados en la mejora de la usabilidad del sistema. En este sentido, una de las cuestiones más polémicas de esta versión, el cambio de los botones de control de las ventanas situados en la esquina superior izquierda ha sufrido un ligero rediseño, que cambia el sentido original que estaba pensado y que, pese a las críticas de muchos usuarios, se mantiene.

Dentro del conjunto de novedades apuntadas, MeMenu empieza a tener ya una apariencia y facilidad de uso bastante buena, que nos permite gestionar nuestras identidades digitales en nuestras redes sociales, Ubuntu One o para Chat. Poco a poco va tomando forma y funcionando bien, se nota que en este sentido han hecho un buen trabajo.

En este orden de cosas han ido incorporando novedades que se anunciaron, como la tienda de música Ubuntu One Music Store que, como curiosidad, diremos que al iniciar Rhythmbox y selecionar Ubuntu One nos informará que no tenemos instalados los complementos para reproducir MP3 y nos dará la opción de instalarlos, dado que éste es el formato en el que se puede adquirir música en dicha tienda.

En este sentido también se han incluido opciones de sincronización con Ubuntu One, donde ahora podremos acceder al complemento para Firefox que nos permitirá tener sincronizados los marcadores entre distintos equipos que estemos manejando con dicho navegador. Se trata del complemento BindWood en su versión 1.0.3 que nos permitirá realizar la sincronización con la identidad de nuestra cuenta de Ubuntu One.

Siguen mejorando en este sentido, haciendo que el servicio tenga cada vez más sentido, no sólo para almacenar documentos, sino las canciones que hemos comprado, nuestros marcadores del navegador o notas y contactos que ya era posible en versiones anteriores.

Muy interesante también el rediseño que ha sufrido Gwibber, el cliente de escritorio que nos permitirá comentar en Twitter, Facebook o Flickr, todo desde una misma ventana. Ahora las opciones de donde estamos comentando son mucho más sencillas. Nos permite más opciones y una mejor funcionalidad, sobre todo en la visión de imágenes de Facebook, que ahora podemos visualizar en Gwibber las últimas que han subido nuestros contactos.

Poco a poco va tomando forma Ubuntu Lucid Lynx, del que ya queda menos de un mes para su versión final. Es hora de ir puliendo los detalles para que cuando llegue el momento del lanzamiento todo funcione como debería. Además siendo esta una versión LTS es un aspecto que desde Cannonical cuidan especialmente.

ownCloud, la alternativa de Gnome y KDE a Ubuntu One

Aunque muchos han calificado el proyecto ownCloud como una alternativa a Dropbox más bien creo que es ownCloud la alternativa de Gnome y KDE a Ubuntu One. Aunque parezca mentira, dos competidores en el escritorio parece que se han aliado para colaborar y desarrollar un entorno de trabajo en la nube a la manera de los mencionados discos duros virtuales.

Parece que KDE se encargaría de desarrollar el backend, la trastienda de la aplicación y Gnome la parte del frontend, o dicho de otra manera, el interfaz que ve y utiliza el usuario. Se trataría de desarrollar una alternativa libre a Dropbox, dejando patente de esta manera que Ubuntu One utiliza una parte para su almacenamiento que no es totalmente libre. Y es que estos chicos son tan puntillosos con la pureza del open source, una pequeña mácula mancilla toda la honra del proyecto.

Además la idea es que pueda funcionar para permitir aplicaciones hospedadas en el disco duro virtual, de forma que además de simple almacenamiento tengamos más opciones para tener aplicaciones en la nube, a la manera de Google o Zoho tal vez. De todas formas, es sólo un proyecto preliminar que tendremos que seguir y ver como se define en el SummerofCode2010.

Pero es que además la idea va un poco más allá pensando en permitir instalarlo en nuestro propio servidor, que funcione para Mac, Windows o Linux y sincronizando con un cliente de escritorio ligero. Además, tendrías la opción copias de seguridad, encriptación de la información entre otras soluciones. En definitiva, una buena alternativa libre a Ubuntu One, a la que superarían en caso de llevar todos los puntos a ejecución de forma muy clara.

Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 amplía las posibilidades de las redes sociales

La versión 10.04 de Ubuntu Linux incluye la creación de redes sociales en el escritorio y mejora el soporte en la nube y la seguridad en el servidor.

“Lucid Lynx” es el nombre del nuevo Ubuntu Linux 10.04 de Canonical, aún en versión beta, que añade características para la creación de redes sociales y un nuevo diseño. La nueva actualización LTS (Long Term Support) está diseñada para un uso a largo plazo, y tendrá soporte al menos durante tres años como sistema operativo de escritorio y por cinco en los servidores.

A pesar de poner el enfoque en la estabilidad, ésta versión incluye características interesantes tanto para los clientes de escritorio y servidor. En este sentido, el escritorio incluye un soporte para las redes sociales, gracias a la integración con Gwibber, un cliente open-source de microblogging que incluye Twitter, Facebook, Digg, Flickr y FriendFeed, entre nueve servicios.

Por otro lado, la versión de escritorio de Lynx Lucid también integra Ubuntu One (U1), la tienda de música de la compañía. La tienda permite a los usuarios comprar música a través de Rhythmbox, el reproductor de música por defecto del sistema operativo. El diseño del escritorio también ha sido actualizado, reemplazando el antiguo diseño marrón de Gnome con nuevos temas, junto con logotipos e indicadores diferentes, y fondos de pantalla mejorados.

Para el servidor, se han integrado novedosas características de cloud computing y una mayor seguridad en el sistema operativo. Canonical advierte de que la versión beta no debe ser instalada en sistemas de producción hasta el 29 de abril que salga la version definitiva, aunque ya está disponible una lista completa de bugs conocidos.

After you are done installing this we go to the questions:

How is XMPP working out?
Good, so go doing your Facebooking or Jabbering everywhere. not to speak you Google Taking
The “Unlocks with ’sudo gainroot’” needs a footnote:
* you need to enable the Maemo Extras application catalog (see above) and install “rootsh”
* or, alternatively (and less conveniently), you need to enable R&D mode with the flasher command-line tool on a PC, with the N900 connected over USB
Does the browser (fennec iirc?) include support for playing back Ogg video and audio?
Ogg support can be added as an additional download. You do have the real Firefox now, or so claims Nokia.
Telepathy supports skype? Haven’t heard of this, but it would be _really_ cool!
As written in my post “you have skype, but no skype app which is a plus.” Yes telepathy handles skype as it handles any other protocol. MSN call support is coming soon as well.
I’d really like to know how easy is to exploit all the cool features of N900 in a self made program (with Maemo SDK or maybe QT 4.6). I mean, the N900 has a built in camera, AGPS, accelerometer, FM-transmitter and so on… is it possibile to write a custom program that uses one or more of these things? For example (it is really just a weird example) if I want to take a photo with the camera each time the phone is “shaked”, I could do it? If I want to save my GPS coordinates every 30 minutes in a text file, I could do it?
I guess I won’t be answering that question in this life time… If (and only if) I ever try programming anything for maemo it will be in Python. I guess you can do pretty neat things with QT + other libs as this application shows. A detailed example of that app here (De-Spotify related).
Test a/v calling on gtalk,jabber using telepathy works or not?
tried once and didn’t work. It could have been me or my other peer either being retarded or just using Linux with the wrong sound config (experienced it before and it had nothing to do with i.e. skype being wrong)
I have seen many people talking about unexpected errors, slow performance, etc. What´s your overall experience?
I experience it as the easiest piece of tech I have ever had. It really is fast and gives me no headaches.
Can you install .deb packages that are valid for a standard PC?
I guess I should elaborate in this question but I won’t. A deb package made in your PC for the N900 architecture (armel) should work. But a standard x86 deb will not.
Can you install pidgin?
Why on earth would I want to do that? Telepathy is totally integrated in my contact list and relevant applications… Pidgin in this context would be like having a skype application: Just overhead! Think of this as a new approach at the way you communicate, not a reproduction of an ineffective way of doing things.
I assume you mention OpenSSH from a client perspective. Can the N900 run the server side? (not sure that makes sense, but I am curious)

I have my screen full of phone related apps, browser windows, multimedia stuff and random apps (terminal, chess, camera) and it still does not feel bloated at all. I really mean it. I never get irritated by this phone!

Great. Nokia ere is king among mobile producers. Nothing can even compare to it, specialy when playing from the speakers. When using headphones it just rocks!

Test call quality, battery life, address book functionality, etc.
Cal quality is good. Battery life could be better (will last one day and two at the most) and Address Book functionality is very nice specially if you think about how well integrated everything is. I have had several smartphones over the years and never seen anything like this.
I am curious how well the calendar works, and more importantly, how well it synchronizes with Google Calendar.
I’ve heard it works like a charm although I do not use Gcalender so I couldn’t tell.
Does it run X11?
I want to know but I don’t. It might do as I can connect to external machines with ssh -X and get apps running on the N900 (such as eclipse)
In other words, is it pie-in-the-sky to expect to use it as a full-blown Linux box?

I added the event and the venue to the loco directory, uploaded our marketing material to SpreadUbuntu and announced the event to the list. We will be having 3 tracks: Translation, Testing and Marketing/PR. The program can be seen here.

The idea is also to finish the planning for the Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04 Oslo Release Party under the Jam. See our planning page here. Among other we have confirmed Håkon Wium Lie as a speech holder (yes, he is an Ubuntu user. Instalar paquete de ELGG 1.6.1 en Español

En mis primeras instalaciones con ELGG tuve problemas al instalar el paquete de español. Así que comparto el como hacerlo.

Primero descargamos el paquete de ELGG en español. La versión que utilizo yo es la de el ELGG 1.6, cuando salga ELGG 1.7 probablemente esto cambiará en el futuro.

Normalmente hubiera utilizado wget, pero por ser un link que se redirecciona algo falla. Probablemente sí se pueda hacer con wget, pero con elinks también. Otra opción es bajar el archivo localmente y luego subirlo al servidor.

Luego de descargar el archivo con elinks, tendremos una ventana blanca. Pulsamos la tecla ‘ctrl’ + la tecla ‘c’.

Creamos un directorio donde vamos a descomprimir los archivos:

mkdir traduccion-elgg

Entramos al directorio

cd traduccion-elgg

Movemos el archivo descargado al nuevo directorio

mv elgg_translation_es.zip traduccion-elgg/

Entramos al directorio

cd traduccion-elgg/

Se descomprime el archivo

unzip elgg_translation_es.zip

Ahora se copia el archivo de languages/es.php a su directorio en el servidor web. Podría ser algo como:

El erro que yo solía tener es que se copiaban traducciones de módulos que no estan instalados y al activarlos en ELGG hacía que este deje de funcionar. Algo que estoy seguro a la mayoría no le gustará para nada que le pase.

Ahora entramos a la interfase web de ELGG y nos vamos a Administration -> Site Administration y cambiamomos la traducción del sitio al español. Con esto estamos casi listos

Lo que falta es cambiar las referencias a la red social ALD por las referencias a tu red social. Para esto identificamos los archivos que contienen estos textos y luego los editamos para cambiarlos a mano. Si por ahí alguno es experto en el comando sed, se podría simplificar bastante esta parte:

grep -r ALD /var/www/elgg/* | grep languages | grep es.php

Hay otros textos que se deben cambiar que luego espero actualizar en este post.

Listo podemos trabajar con nuestra red social en español.

Instalación de Debian GNU/Linux (Lenny) en Imágenes

He estado jugando mucho con VirtualBox y varias distribuciones. Así que decidí guardar pantallazos de los procesos de instalación de las mismas para que los nuevos usuarios de GNU/Linux tenga una guía sobre como instalar.

En este artículo vamos a aprender a instalar Debian Lenny aunque lo más probable el procedimiento es el mismo o muy similar para futuras versiones. La instalación la haremos pensando en un usuario de escritorio por lo que separaremos el directorio /home en una segunda partición. De esta manera tengo todos los datos de los usuarios en una partición a parte que la puede mantener en el futuro así actualice el sistema operativo.

Explicaré un poco sobre lo que se nos pide en cada pantalla. Pero en realidad la explicación que ya trae el instalador será mucho más detallada que que yo explico en este artículo.

Esta es una guía básica sobre como instalar Debian. Si tiene miedo de hacerlo en una máquina real, siempre podrá practicar antes con software como Virtual Box.

Ubuntu 10.04 tiene nuevo dialogo de LogOut

Creo que casi todos incluiendome a mi no me gusto la forma que en la que Ubuntu en las versiones de Karmic y anteriores agrego un dialogo de Logout/Restart/Shutdown que aparecia un contador regresivo que se ve como esto:

Esto es molestoso en mi caso, si ya doy cerrar seccion o apagar o reiniciar para que el contador? esta bien una pregunta pero no contador regresivo. Lo bueno que en la nueva version de Ubuntu Lucid ya viene un nuevo dialogo que me parece mejor y mas juicioso.

Script para cambiar la posicion de los botones

Aunque esto todavia es objeto de debate, en Ubuntu Forums existe unaencuesta donde va ganando la opción de colocar los botones en el lado derecho de la ventana.
Cambiar la posición y orden de los botones, es ahora aún más fácil con este script.

Baja el Script en el suguiente link @ http://eftimie.ro/store/window_controls.py

Como lo corres?

Click Derecho sobre el Script bajado y escoje “propiedades” del menu que te aparece. En la ventana nueva que esta visible de propiedades ve al Tab de Permisos y pon marcado la caja de Alojar el file como ejecutable.

Ahora doble click en el file y una ventana como estan en los graficos te aparecera al abrirse.

New Logo
Check out the current versions. See what you can make out of it. There is a source file on the wiki. Upload it to the wiki when you are done!
Navigation
- Where should the navigation be placed? The ‘primary’ navigation (get, make, translate, and share) is on the left (top for the home page)
- To match the other websites, it should be moved to the orange bar at the top, yet the logos and descriptions are still desirable.
- What would be the best way to keep them?
- Where should secondary navigation be placed? Currently it is on the left side only for logged in users. If the primary is moved to the top, the secondary will be the only thing occupying the left sidebar, which would be a weird transition from not logged in to logged in.

Front Page
- What improvements can be made to the home page? Is there any information it needs?
- Is the current layout ideal? Nearly no visitor clicks any of the ‘top rated materials’. Instead, they go for a ‘media’ or click ‘get materials’.
Font
Browsers with support for @font-face are growing large enough that we can pick whatever font we want. Do we want to use something like Liberation Sans for all text?
Materials Node
This is the layout you see when you click on a material you want, and you are given the option to download images or source. It displays information about the material. How can this be brought to the new style?

Please make some mock-ups of what you want to see happen, and add it to the wiki at the top in the appropriate section.

Testing is great fun!

Lately there has been a lot of activity in the Norwegian LoCo Team. We had a meeting last month , will hold a Jam in Oslo and have a great line-up of talks for our Lucid release party and have great goals to be achieved before the release for our web presence! I tried to get Lucid into this one, but it seems that the transition from hal to udev means a bit of work to get this working. I don’t know if this is beyond my technical skills or I am just lazy, but I went the rational way and tried our stable release after the development branch failed miserably (I will be reporting those bugs later.)
I really loved Karmic since lots of things work like a charm with this Tablet PC. It does require some effort to get everything (Wacom drivers, rotate buttons, fingerprint authentication ++) working, but with good and well documented help you can manage to get everything working as it should!
Faster Scheduler Alternatives to Mainline Linux Kernel Technology
As some of you might already have heard there are different approaches to CPU and I/O Scheduling than those that are standard in the Linux Mainline Kernel (the Linus’ one) and that have a different approach about how a computer should work. This is true specially for Personal Computers. After all Linux runs on all kind of devices: from a watch to most supercomputers in the world so the way the kernel thinks of scheduling might be very adaptable in most cases, but specific uses cases as a PC might get better performance by having different approaches to activities and resource scheduling.
The most famous and well known of these are the BFS (Brain-Fuck-CPU-Scheduler) by Con Kolivas and BFQ (Budget Fair Queueing I/O Scheduler) by Fabio Checconi and Paolo Valente. Our community is so awesome that these are already packaged by my hero of the day so it’s just a matter of adding this PPA to your sources.list (and, of course, to have an idea of what you are doing) and getting the right kernel for testing. The same repo should work for Debian systems as well.
I have to admit that the whole Ubuntu desktop experience feels different, more responsive and, nonetheless, faster with this additions! I have not run benchmarks on it yet.
Nokia N900
I have not tested this device as much as I would have liked because the charger bay got ruined! So I charge its batteri in my old Nokia N810 and as I use it s a phone it is very irritating to test things and wait a couple of hours before the battery gets charged in the other device… So before I get the device fixed you will not be seeing the results of my tests. Sorry people. With the meego announcement this whole thing is less exciting (at least in my eyes) since the debian part of it will be gone (meego, as moblin is, will be RPM based.)
Upgrading to LTS on desktops and servers
I have some machines running Ubuntu. Most of them are desktops and some of them are servers (isn’t every GNU/Linux machine a server?)
Nowadays when I do sysadmin work I do it because its fun. I might not be the best sysadmin around, but again, I am a sales man playing with technology so it does not really matter that much as if I was making a living out of it. When I have my community hat I do have a high standard in my System operations responsabilities, but on my personal servers I am a bit more careless.
As Lucid is the next LTS release I am interested in upgrading all my machines (Dapper 6.06, Hardy 8.04, Jaunty 9.04, Karmic 9.10) to Lucid. I have been preparing the ground for these updates and I will execute them all after the first beta arrives.
Lucid Testing
I want Lucid to be the best possible OS. That’s why I am testing it in any PC I can have for ~10 minutes. A USB Live boot image is awesome for this! the release is shaping rather nice and it sure is the fastest un til now. In many cases it is the fastest OS I’ve seen… And that is not what I am used to say about Linux, at least it has not been so for the last 12 years.
My focus under the Jam will thus be to test the Lucid development releases and fill bugs in LP wherever we encounter them. More information on the Oslo Jam will be published next week.

Going to Iceland next week!

I have always been a fan of Iceland and its people for years (it all started with Verne’s Voyage au centre de la Terre for something like two decades ago) and so I was quick to buuy my ticket when a good friend (Icelandic) of mine asked me to come along to celebrate his nephew’s Confirmation. I am not into Christianity or anything like that, but I do know when to grab a unique opportunity when it’s in front of me.

So I will be there having fun and can meet people interested in a stronger Ubuntu Nordic cooperation somewhere between the 10th and the 15th of March. I am basically up for a drink of some sort, a FLOSS related chat with locals and advocacy experience exchange. Who knows: We might even get the Icelandic LoCo Team started?

SpreadUbuntu and the new Ubuntu Branding

Well, I am going to leave that for another post. What I can say right now is that the focus of the team for what’s left of this and the whole of the next release cycle will be on:

Cooperating better with, among others, the Artwork Team
Being a driving force and point of contact for Ubuntu Guerrilla Marketing
Hopefully the team is gong to have a week long sprint under the 10.10 UDS in Belgium (depends on sponsorship ++)
Make a roadmap towards the graduation of the project (as in we want the Canonical owned spreadubuntu .com and .org domains and we will work towards that goal)
Becoming official within the release of Lucid+1

No hay eleccion entre Buzz, Twitter y Facebook por el momento

Si asi es, segun mi opinion no creo que exista comparacion o talvez si pero cada servicio tiene sus ventajas y desventajas segun mi punto de vista.

Twitter es un social network por demas conocido y usado por todo el mundo entero. Muchas compañias, usuarios regulares estan registrados en Twitter para promocionar sus servicios, articulos, oh simplemente para enviar lo que tu piensas, haces o realizas.

Twitter tiene algunas herramientas como poder enviar links de tus fotos, mapas, paginas web etc, que fuera de las aplicaciones externas se comunica con otros social networks como Facebook, Flickr, MySpace, Wordpress, etc ,etc. Twitter funciona asi mismo con envio de mensajes desde tu celular si no tienes un telefono inteligente (iPhone, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, Android, Nokia, etc) con internet para tener un App instalado. En final Twitter esta en todas partes y con todos.

Google Buzz, hay google google google, muchos lo aman, muchos lo temen, muchos a medias. Google implemento hace casi un men su social network llamado como esta en la imagen Google Buzz. Al principio no muchos lo tenian activado pero en menos de 3 dias creo que todos los usuarios de Gmail ya lo tenian dento de sus correos como una opcion mas del menu lateral izquierdo.

Al principio como todo lo nuevo, es desconcertante, nadie sabe que hacer, ni como manejarlo, ni para que sirve. todos lo miran como el extraterrestre que llego de planeta Google .

Lo que mas leia (asi creo q se escribe) era acerca de lo que casi el mundo habla acerca de los servicios de Google, “La informacion de tu identidado privacidad” que la mayoria dice que Google tiene demaciada informacion acerca de nosotros. Mi pregunta es hacia todos, cuando creas una cuenta de correo, de social netowrks oh de lo que sea no das tu informacion alli tambien? por que tanto miedo a Google?

Bueno ahora las ventajas de usar Google Buzz: Yo lo veo una convinacion de Facebook con Twitter; por que? Twitter te permite realizar una entrada con un maximo de 140 caracteres incluido los links, osea si ingresas por decir “Hola aqui estoy http://link.com/otracosa/aqui/estoy.html” todo cuenta cada espacio, cada letra, cada simbolo dentro de los 140 caracteres.

Dentro de Buzz tienen ilimitado numero de caracteres incluido los link que es una opcion separada de lo que escribas, asi mismo puedes agregar fotos que tengas en tu Picasa Web albun oh de cualquier albun de fotos en la internet y esto aparecera como una foto completa abajo de tu comentario (texto). Asi mismo lo que tu posteas puede ser replicado por otra gente que te sigue oh si tienes un profile publico pues de la gente que desee ponerte un comentario en tu post.

Como en Twitter si pones un comentario o alguna noticia y otra persona desea hacer un reply con un comentario o link oh lo que sea lo puede hacer pero es como otra entrada mas.

Ahora la cosa es que no todos usan Gmail, no todos tienen correos en Gmail, eso significa que si quieres ser parte de Google Buz de ley debes de tener una cuenta con Gmail. Lo que me hubiera gustado es que Google tambien implementara a Google Apps dentro de Buzz.

Entonces alli la desventaja ya que con Twitter puedes crearte una cuenta con cualquier email de referencia. Ademas Buzz te exige crear un profile dentro de Google para que puedas usar Buzz.

Bueno Facebook es como los dos anteriores, solo que tiene mas aplicaciones que se agregan a tu profile, hay algunas que a mi sinceramente me iiritan como el famoso FarmVille o la Granja. Hay otras aplicaciones que son muy utiles para unir social Networks con el mismo Facebook y Apps para los telefonos mobiles.

Asi mismo Facebook tiene la opciones q comentaba en Buzz, cuando ingresas algo y otra persona desea comentar no se forma otra entrada separada, se forma una entrada dentro de la tuya y asi se mantiene como ordenado todo.

Otra ventaja es que puedes crear paginas de tu negocio, paginas de tu blog oh de lo que tengas en mente y promocionarlo, (pagando).

Dos nuevas caracteristicas han sido agregadas a Ubuntu Software Center dentro del nuevo Ubuntu Lucid.

Caracteristica de Categoria: Hay un complemento especial de alto nivel de categoría para aplicaciones altamente recomendadas que no tenemos espacio para el disco. Esto incluye el GIMP y Abiword en estos momentos. Vamos a añadir más a lo largo del ciclo de lanzamiento.
Paquetes personales de Archivos: PPA son ahora visibles en el Software Center. Este es otro paso más para hacer que el opportunistic development rockin en Ubuntu.

How to Instalar OpenOffice 3.2 en Ubuntu Karmic Koala

OpenOffice 3.2 salio hace una semana o dos si no mas me equivoco, entre las actualizaciones estan:

Rapido inicio del mismo
Soporte para ODF
Soporte para los nuevos tipos de formatos privativos de MS Office
Soporte para los archivos que vienen con clave

Entre otras mas actualizaciones que hace mejor cada dia mas a OpenOffice y como varias veces e repetido a mis amigos, clientes, etc. Para que gastar $100 o $200 en un MS Office privativo, si puedes tener un OpenOffice non-privativo Gratis y actualzaiciones.

Para instalarlo en tu Ubuntu seguimos los siguientes pasos:

Desinstalamos en OpenOffice que tenemos instalado por defecto en tu maquina

sudo apt-get remove openoffice*

Luego descargamos y descomprimimos

Para Ubuntu 32 Bits

wget http://download.services.openoffice.org/files/localized/es/3.2.0/OOo_3.2.0_LinuxIntel_install_es_deb.tar.gz && tar -xvf OOo_3.2.0_LinuxIntel_install_es_deb.tar.gz

Para Ubuntu 64 Bits

Test Drive un Ubuntu ISO en una Maquina Virtual

TestDrive es un proyecto que hace que sea muy fácil de descargar y ejecutar la última version instantánea de Ubuntu diaria del desarrollo en una máquina virtual. En realidad, se puede configurar para descargar y ejecutar cualquier acceso de URL-ISO en una máquina virtual. Pero el objetivo principal es proporcionar un método muy simple para permitir que usuarios no técnicos de Ubuntu puedan probar y proporcionar información sobre la versión de Ubuntu actual que este en fase de desarrollo.

Como instalar esto en Ubuntu Lucid?
sudo apt-get install testdrive

Si estas aun en Ubuntu 8.04, 8.10, 9.04, or 9.10, use los siguientes PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~testdrive/+archive/ppa

Que deberan ser ingresados en Sistema>Administracion>Software Sources

Realizas un reload a los repositorios y luego lo instalas igual como se instalaria en Ubuntu Lucid.

Cuando lo tengas ya instalado simplemente lo podras encontrar en Aplicaciones>Herramientas de Sistema>testdrive

Cuando ya abras el testdrive obtendras una ventana con las imagenes diarias de Lucid.

Seleccionas una de las opciones que te da el menu y listo. Aqui abajo un video

Google Buzz es uno de los últimos servicios de Google. Presentado a principios de esta misma semana se trata de una ampliación de su popular servicio de correo Gmail que ofrece a los usuarios la posibilidad de conversar y compartir toda clase de recursos online, públicamente o en privado.

En cierto modo esta basado en Google Wave -como reconocen desde Google- aunque su función es muy diferente: mientras que Google Buzz esta dirigido a usuarios particulares o finales que quieren conversar activa y dinámicamente, Google Wave tiene un enfoque más hacia el trabajo en equipo mediante una herramienta muy potente, útil más allá de la mera diversión y con una orientación claramente más seria e incluso profesional.

Durante la presentación de Google Buzz se hizo referencia a un hecho implícito a los servicios del tipo de las redes sociales: es difícil separar la señal del ruido, el grano de la paja o lo útil de lo inútil.

Sin embargo, lejos de servir como filtro, de entrada Google Buzz es otro granero donde la paja se junta con el grano, y ademas lo hace en un entorno íntimo por naturaleza como es el buzón de correo electrónico personal.

A pesar de lo anterior, el de Google cuenta con recursos y herramientas para filtrar el chorro de información que entra por el servicio y que inicialmente puede asustar o como mínimo resultar confuso.

Personalmente lo voe como una buena herramienta de uso como la es Twitter que ya es super conocido y en muchos casos usado para negocio.

Me encanta la forma que Google sigue unificando sus servicios en una sola herramienta en este caso como lo es Gmail con Google Buzz.

Muchos dicen en la Red que para que un social network mas. Yo digo mejor uno bueno que monton malos. No incluyo a Twitter en este comentario pero si a Facebook que es un amado-odiado de mis social networks.

Que si Google Buzz sera el Facebook-Twitter Killer eso aun es muy temprano para decirlo pero puede pasar

Background

The Internet has been nominated for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize.

Conclusion

Given that the Internet has allowed a powerful global conversation to start and thus implies non-violence as well as being a platform for global voluntary cooperation, it should be given the Nobel Peace Prize. Although the prize itself is meaningless, it does have an undeniable symbolic value.

Now the analysis.

The Nobel Prize to Barack and “Scandinavian” as adjective:

One of the main reasons for Obama getting the Nobel Peace Prize was his stand and preliminary work against the dispersion of nuclear weapons. Well let’s not forget that we, the world, are still facing many dangers that are not being fought against by any politician. Instead politicians ally themselves with them to set the discourse of the day, and this is true for most societies worldwide. So it’s fair to call these dangers for what they are: Press, Radio and Television = Weapons of mass destruction!

Well, as much as I was disappointed with the stupidity of the Nobel committee here in Oslo last year, I don’t blame them. I guess Thorbjørn Jagland, chair of the committee, wanted to shake hands with Barack and play the cool kid in front of the world. To me that is not surprising coming from him. In my eyes he is a poster child of the manic Scandinavian obsession with and speciality for organizing peace and freedom. He also represents the historical, and current, Scandinavian pushing for the creation (notice where the first 2 UN Secretary General are from) of a One World government. And as any politician or person of power, he likes to show off. Period.

In second though, the peace organizing behavior might actually be driven by guilt or might just be categorized as schizophrenic as the track record of Scandinavian countries (read Norway and Sweden specifically) is not as peaceful or uneventful as you might think. But please, don’t get me wrong. I love Norway and the other Scandinavian countries and their people, I just want us to acknowledge collectively that we are acting sanctimoniously. If we are to change things we have to recognize mere facts first!

The point:

So before you get me going with my rant and I bore you to death: The Internet has allowed individuals from al parts of the globe to communicate and in the process it has changed the way we think of ourselves, people around us, country borders and the world itself. I guess we can link this to the idea of the Internet being a global conversation driven by argumentation, and this does not only apply to markets, but also has political and social implications. Thus, Discourse ethics can seem to be a valid tool to search for interpersonal relations and moral implications in this global polilogue of ours.

Not surprisingy, as I have taken my stand, I will take a libertarian approach and analize if this global conversation actually has brought us some amount of peace or, at least, less violence. Anyway far less damage than Nobel’s invention.

From Wikipedia’s article about Discourse Ethics:

Drawing on the work of Habermas and Apel, Hoppe, a former student of Habermas’s, asserts that argumentation, or discourse, is by its nature a conflict-free way of interacting and requires individual control of resources; thus, he argues, certain norms are presupposed as true by anyone engaging in genuine discourse. These norms include the libertarian principle of non-aggression, which itself implies libertarian rights. Therefore, no one can argumentatively deny libertarian rights without self-contradiction.

Now let’s see Gary B. Madison’s analysis on the subject:

“the various values defended by liberalism are not arbitrary, a matter of mere personal preference, nor do they derive from some natural law. . . . Rather, they are nothing less and nothing more than what could be called the operative presuppositions or intrinsic features and demands of communicative rationality itself. In other words, they are values that are implicitly recognized and affirmed by everyone by the very fact of their engaging in communicative reason. This amounts to saying that no one can rationally deny them without at the same time denying reason, without self-contradiction, without in fact abandoning all attempts to persuade the other and to reach agreement.”

These implicitly recognized values include a renunciation of the legitimacy of violence. Thus,

“it is absolutely impossible for anyone who claims to be rational, which is to say human, outrightly to defend violence …. [As Paul Ricoeur writes:]‘. . . violence is the opposite of discourse. . . . Violence is always the interruption of discourse: discourse is always the interruption of violence.’ That violence is the opposite of discourse means that it can never justify itself—and is therefore not justifiable—for only through discourse can anything be justified. As the theory of rational argumentation and discussion, liberalism amounts, therefore, to a rejection of power politics.”

Thus, Madison, like Hoppe, argues that the fact-value gap can be bridged by an appeal to the nature of discourse.

While Hoppe attempts to show that the non-aggression principle (i.e., self-ownership plus the right to homestead) itself is directly implied by any discourse or argumentation, Madison’s arguments are a bit different. For instance, he argues that, because discourse has priority over violence, this validates the Kantian claim that people ought to be treated as ends rather than means, which is the principle of human dignity. The principle of freedom from coercion then follows from the principle of human dignity.

Out of this we can derive, among others, that the internet is just the platform for this global argumentation, and it’s infrastructure hosts the reflection of this argumentation as text. But the conversation itself is driven by its users. All of them.

So, give the Nobel Peace Prize to all of us, to humanity that always finds ways to do what we have evolved ourselves to be best at: cooperate!

Ubuntu One también podrá utilizarse en Windows

Ubuntu One es el servicio de almacenamiento en línea de parte de Canonical, empresa que también está detrás de Ubuntu Linux. El servicio sólo es disponible desde la misma distribución, sin llegar a otros sistema operativos… hasta ahora, que todo apunta a que ya se está portando la aplicación para utilizarse desde Windows

26-01-2010 - Ubuntu One ofrece gratuitamente a los usuarios de Ubuntu un espacio de almacenamiento en línea de 2 GB. La aplicación para acceder al servicio viene por defecto instalada en la distribución y puede utilizarse incluso para almacenar las notas de Tomboy, una característica que se dio en la versión 9.10.

También cuenta con la opción de 50 GB que es de pago, la cual aumentó hace pocos meses desde 10 GB hasta la capacidad ofrecida ahora.

Aun cuando Ubuntu One está compitiendo con servicios similares tales como Dropbox o Click’n Backup de Mandriva, se encuentra muy limitado ya que no puede ser utilizado en otras distribuciones Linux, o sistemas operativos.

Sin embargo, ya existe un proyecto que busca portarlo a Windows y que está inscrito para presentarse en la PyCon 2010, conferencia anual realizada para la comunidad Python que en está ocasión se realizará en Atlanta desde el 17 al 25 de febrero de este año.

El proyecto es llevado a cabo por el equipo de Ubuntu One, lo que supone el compromiso de parte de Canonical para extender el uso del servicio. También es conocido que ya lo está portando para KDE y Fedora, y es muy probable que lo haga disponible para más distribuciones.

Su competidor Click’n Backup de Mandriva tiene un soporte más grande de plataformas, no limitándose a su distribución. Puede ser instalado en Windows, Mac OS X y en muchas distribuciones Linux mediante la compilación del programa.

El único inconveniente es que no ofrece una cuenta gratuita de pocos GB, sino que todos los planes que ofrece son de pago, una ventaja para Ubuntu One que se acerca más al servicio popular Dropbox y con el cual seguramente competirá en mejor nivel a futuro.

Ubuntu cambia a Google por Yahoo!

Los responsables de Canonical, empresa que desarrolla una de las distribuciones más utilizadas de GMU/Linux, anunció un acuerdo mediante el cual el buscador por defecto en Firefox será Yahoo!, la cual tiene a la vez una alianza estratégica con Microsof

La primera consecuencia visible de este acuerdo entre Canonical y Yahoo! será la desaparición de Google como buscador predeterminado en Firefox.

Los usuarios podrán elegir qué motor de búsqueda utilizarán por defecto, pero hay un punto curioso dentro del trato firmado por Canonical: Yahoo! acaba de ceder su negocio de búsquedas a Microsoft.

“El acuerdo proporcionará ingresos, que permitirán a Canonical ofrecer recursos a los desarrolladores para mantener libre el desarrollo de Ubuntu y su ecosistema”, explicó Rick Spencer, responsable de la versión de escritorio de Ubuntu, en una nota abierta.

La inclusión de Yahoo! a Firefox para los usuarios de Ubuntu se implementará ni bien salga la próxima versión de la distribución (10.4) en abril.

El acuerdo sigue los pasos inciados por Mozilla cuando incorporó a Google como motor de búsquedas predeterminado en Firefox. El browser envía tráfico a Google y éste le paga a Mozilla por ello.

La mayor parte de los u$s79 millones que Mozilla facturó en 2008 provenían de los ingresos de publicidad generados a través de las búsquedas enviadas desde Firefox a Google.

Ahora la question es que en la mayoria de algunos blog, noticias, social networks e visto que dice que Canonical o Ubuntu como lo quieran decir ya esta pasandose al lado “obscuro” osea a Microsoft, pero no creo que sea asi. Ya que Yahoo aun no esta comprado por Microsoft y ademas es tan facil de que cuando inicie tu Firefox por primera vez en Ubuntu 1.04 simplemente si no te gusta Yahoo como tu buscador por defecto, cambialo al que tu desees, existen varios como Google, Ask, Bing, etc ya es decision tuya lo que hagas con tu navegador, tu PC, verdad?

Veamos que no pase a mas las relaciones de Canonical con Yahoo

Skype 2.1 Beta 2 para Linux

La version Beta 2 de Linux salio hace unos pocos dias, realmente no la eh probado por que poco lo uso, no por malo solo que existen otros servicios propios de Ubuntu que realizan la misma funcion como el propio Empathy que viene instalado por defaul en Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.04.

Esta nueva version de Skype provee mejor calidad en video y sonido y algunas caracteristicas adicionales (segun Skype Limited), espero este arreglado el problemaso que desde la version 8.04 o 8.10 tenian los usuarios de Ubuntu en el sonido. Segun anuncian tiene High Quality Video en esta version, no High Definition pero si High Quality que anteriormente habia ya estado en las versiones de Win y Mac (gracias por pensar en los linuxeros Skype), para obtener llamadas de buena calidad y buen video.

Yo tenía entre 2 y 3 años. Estaba montando a caballo con mi mamá en el Zuleteño con un grupo de gente.Empezamos a galopar y mi mamá soltó las riendas del caballo que quedaron en mis manos. En ese momentó a todo galope yo me sentí el rey del mundo en la capacidad de controlar un animal tan grande como un caballo.

Simplemente un momento maravilloso y una de las razones por las que amo tanto a los caballos.

¿Cómo que qué sistema? Pues Windows. ¿Acaso hay otro?
2. ¿Sabe que Windows es inseguro?
Sí bueno… pero yo soy un experto en informática.
3. ¿Practica algún deporte de alto riesgo?
¿Vale Windows como deporte?
4. ¿Algún hobby?
Instalar parches para Windows.
5. ¿Otras aficiones?
Formatear el disco duro.
6. ¿En qué emplea el tiempo, cuando usa el ordenador?
En instalar parches, principalmente. Me preocupo mucho por estar siempre seguro
7- ¿Cree que le saca partido a su ordenador?
Queda poco tiempo, aparte de instalar parches y formatear.
8. ¿Qué programas son los que más usa?
Norton antivirus, Mcafee antivirus, Avp antivirus, Panda antivirus, Avg antivirus, Sophos antivirus, F-secure antivirus, Norman antivirus y Pc-cillin antivirus.
9. ¿Confía en su sistema operativo?
¡POR SUPUESTO! Lo tengo bien protegido teniendo en cuenta que instalo varios parches diarios y tengo nueve antivirus

Solo a veces, cuando no queda mas remedio que reiniciar.
11. ¿Y suele reiniciar a menudo?
Sí, pero la culpa es de los que programan los cracks, que no se enteran.

El reset.
Esa no vale; tecla de teclado.
Ah! bueno, alguna vez uso tres: ctrl, alt y supr. En realidad no sé para qué valen las otras teclas porque Windows está pensado para manejarse con el ratón y con el reset.
13. ¿Qué opina de los cortafuegos?
Son muy necesarios porque hay mucho pirómano cabrón metiendo fuego a los bosques.
14. ¿Conoce algún sistema operativo que no sea Windows?
Pues claro: también tengo la Playstation.
15. ¿Ha oído hablar de Linux?:
Sí. Eso es Open Surfer.
16. ¿Y no le apetece probarlo?
Pues sí, algún día, cuando vaya de vacaciones a alguna playa con buen oleaje.
17. ¿Qué es lo que menos le gusta de Windows?
Que solo tenga un salvapantallas de color azul y que luego no pueda quitarlo sin reiniciar.
18. ¿Qué es lo que más le gusta de usar Windows?
Que todo es gratis.
19. Pero Windows no es gratis.
En realidad puedes pagarlo, pero eso es voluntario. Todos los que conozco lo tienen gratis. No te enteras?
